Scary Supper 2018 Halloween Food Ideas

So, to follow-up on this post that showed some prior Scary Supper meals we’ve made, here is what we’ve done this year! Last night we held our Scary Supper for family. If you have children or family/friends with children, I encourage you to try doing some fun foods. The kids just love it!

Chicken Pot Pies

I made 2 chicken pot pies. I just used a recipe from the outside of the Crisco box for the pastry. The inside chicken mixture recipe was found here. To decorate the top of the pies, I formed the pastry into a nose shape first and used the end of a skewer to make the nostrils.  The eyes were formed from pastry as well and the eyelashes are cut up pieces of chives.  The lips were formed from pastry and the the tongue too. The teeth are white onion pieces.  Note- to attach any of the pastry pieces to the top, I wet the back with water and it acted like a glue.  The shading was done with a new paintbrush and some homemade edible “paint.” For brown, I used beef bouillon powder mixed with water.  For red, I used pizza sauce.  Before baking, I also poked some slashes with a knife in a few areas to act as air holes.

Snake Breadsticks

These breadsticks were made using a plain yeast dough recipe.  The idea for the snake shape came from here. Instead of using black sesame seeds for the eyes, which I could not find, I cut up black olives.

“Pumpkin” Deviled Eggs

This idea came from here, although I didn’t use their recipe. Green onions for the “stems.”

Broomsticks

The idea for this came from here. Pretzels, cheese strings and chives to tie the cheese strings on.

Skeleton Rice Krispie Squares

The idea for this came from here, although I used the recipe for Rice Krispie Squares from the cereal box.

My mother-in-law made these amazing chocolate zucchini cupcakes and my daughter had fun decorating them with Halloween candy.
